I successfully executed the update without obvious issue and, importantly, no WiFi connectivity issue.
About a day or so later, without apparent cause, the head unit (Double DIN 7" HA2153 PX6) lost its auto-reconnect WiFi connection. Turning WiFi ON (which the unit appeared to do briefly) saw an immediate reversion to the OFF state.
I did some research on the web and couldn't find anything a clear fire solution, so I thought I'd reinstall the firmware (see above) and see if that helped. Fortunately, WiFi is now restored and thankfully I didn't need to do a full head unit reset. I'll be watching over the short term to see whether the cycle repeats (hopefully not).
