MCU is the microntroller that controls car behavior (by means of receiving the canbus signals) and other headunit components like:
- Sound digital processor.
- Bluetooth
- ...
MCU behavior is partly controlled by the settings on "factory settings menu"
This MCU is an intermediate actor between hardware and android software.
Usually MCU upgrades don't include new functionalities and just support for new canbus boxes related to new car brand/models. So my recommendation is: "if it works... don't upgrade"
Although there are several mtce type systems (different brands and manufacturer), the dasaita mtce/mtch units can only the MCU be upgraded with their own software update. This is labeled as MTCE_HA or MTCH_HA (depending on the motherboard). Using other manufacturer MCU upgrade files different than "HA" could result in headunit malfunctioning or brick unit.
The procedure of upgrading the MCU is simple, but some recommendations must be highlighted:
- Before upgrading, EXPORT the current factory settings to a headunit location. A file called dmcu.ext will be stored.
- When upgrading place BOTh the update file (dmcu.bin) with the exported file (dmcu.ext) in the same folder (usually root folder of.a USB drive)
- Perform the update.
By using the dmcu.ext file....the MCU upgrade will be applied keeping the settings of the "factory settings" exported.
It is common that sometimes during MCU upgrade (even using the HA MCU upgrade) some settings on factory settings be overriden or modified or just all settings reset to default values (not necessarily the ones corresponding to your headunit). So using this method you will never experience this.
